Browse the Internet in peace and say goodbye to cookie banners with Ninja Cookie!

Since May 2017, when the General Data Protection Regulation entered into force, websites have been required to obtain informed consent from users, for the use of cookies, when they visit their websites. This requirement is the founding premise of cookie banners.

Here at Ninja Cookie we find them intrusive, boring, difficult to configure and, at the end of the day, quite intolerable! Therefore, in order to also make your browsing experience more comfortable, we designed the Ninja Cookie to intelligently set your cookie banners so these would disappear for you.
In a nutshell, you can now forget about cookie banners! Ninja Cookie can take care of these for you, handling what you no longer wish to do anymore!

Ninja Cookie provides a way for you to enjoy using the Internet more easily, and without extra costs.

We want Ninja Cookie to be easily accessible, and to make browsing more enjoyable for everyone. Therefore, Ninja Cookie is available to use on all major browsers (such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Brave and Vivaldi), and can be easily added on to your browser in just a few clicks, from your browser’s application store.

We also believe that all Internet users should have the right to take advantage of such simple tools, in order to better protect their Internet privacy. This is why the basic features of Ninja Cookie are (and will remain) free to use. In order to fund the development of Ninja Cookie, we will soon be offering a premium version. This version will include some useful, additional features, for those who wish to use more advanced Ninja Cookie options. This will enable us to be fully transparent with you about how we finance ourself. We would like to inform you that Ninja Cookie does not collect or sell your personal data. More information is available in our FAQs, should you wish to find out more about this.

What does Ninja Cookie Premium do?

Ninja Cookie doesn’t collect or sell any data. We don’t advertise either. To help fund the development, we offer a premium version that provides additional features.

This premium version is based on a PWYW (Pay What You Want) pricing model. This way, you are the one who chooses the right subscription fee based on what you want and what you are able to pay!

You can also get Ninja Cookie Premium for free. The free premium license will then only be granted for 1 month. We think this time restriction is fair.

Cookie banners configuration & hiding

Ninja Cookie is a browser extension that automatically removes cookie banners by rejecting the use of non-essential cookies. When Ninja Cookie doesn’t know how to configure the banner, he will try to hide it. This provides you with maximum comfort during your navigation.

Both features are free of charge.

Pause by tab

By default, Ninja Cookie is able to pause on a single tab for 30 minutes. With Ninja Cookie Premium, you can pause Ninja Cookie on a single tab. This pause is effective until you reactivate Ninja Cookie. This helps you to be more specific.

Whitelist

For various reasons, you may not want Ninja Cookie to operate on some websites. To do that, we have developped the whitelist feature: If you add a website to the white list, Ninja Cookie will not try to configure its cookie banner.

Disable the sticker

The sticker is the small dot in the bottom right corner of your screen that shows you what Ninja Cookie has done. With Ninja Cookie Basic, you can set this sticker wherever you want. With Ninja Cookie Premium, you can also disable it.

Live mode

By default, everything Ninja Cookie does is done in the background so that you are not disturbed. If you want to see in live what Ninja Cookie does, you can activate the Live mode. This way, the work done by Ninja Cookie will be done in the foreground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it so important to say no?

Here at Ninja Cookie we understand the importance of being able to say “No” when you choose to, and having the right to express your opinion (if you are being asked for it), boosting your online privacy.

We like to take the example of democracy and elections as a way of explaining our stance: many people complain that their opinion is never heard, or even that their voice cannot change the final outcome. But how can anyone expect an opinion to be heard, and taken into account, if it is not stated?

Your voice counts and must be heard! With Ninja Cookie, we want to give you the means to say “No” whenever you want, and without wasting any time.

Will Ninja Cookie collect, analyze or sell my data?

Ninja Cookie offers the perfect solution for all Internet users who want to refuse the collection of their data, and to enjoy browsing without the use of a cookie banner. It would be incomprehensible for us to collect data for the purpose of deriving profit from it. So we would like to be very clear about this: Ninja Cookie does not collect any data about you for the purpose of analyzing, using or selling it.

However, there are two exceptional cases when we might do this :

  • When you contact us through our website form, or our plug-in suggestion form, we will collect only your email address, in order that we can respond to you.
  • When you contact us from the extension to report a bug, we will collect the web address of the page on which this bug is found, as well as the user agent (for information about your browser). This information will only be used for development purposes, in order to reproduce, understand and fix the bug.

The information taken shall never, under any circumstances, be used for any other purpose.

What is Ninja Cookie's business model?

Ninja Cookie is a free to use extension. We do not actually earn any money.

Ninja Cookie is still in its early days, and our priority is to create an extension that can be of real benefit to the Internet user. We would like to improve your browsing experience, recognizing that all Internet users need their digital privacy respected. That is exactly why we are happy to invest our time and money into improving the way Ninja Cookie works and performs, while providing our extension for free.

However, as we face the future, developing and improving Ninja Cookie without a source of funding will not be possible. We categorically refuse to resort to any “opaque” funding, which could compromise the performance of Ninja Cookie, such as certain ad blockers for example. We also flatly refuse to collect and resell your data in order to finance ourselves. We would like our financing model to accord 100% respect towards our users privacy. Therefore, we will be offering our premium version in just a few weeks. This will provide some additional and useful features, for those who would like to support us and explore Ninja Cookie further. We hope to be able to tell you more about this very soon.

Some extensions that remove cookie banners do already exist. What is the difference with using Ninja Cookie?

Some current extensions promise navigation, but without a cookie banner. However, Ninja Cookie removes cookie banners by refusing the use of advertising or tracking cookies. This is not the case with current extensions. For example,

  • I Don’t Care About Cookies: this is regularly described as the Internet user’s indispensable extension. But in fact, I Don’t Care About Cookies removes cookie banners by allowing the use of all cookies. At Ninja Cookie we understand that your online browsing privacy is important. Therefore, we believe that the I Don’t Care About Cookies approach is simply not the right one to adopt.
  • uBlock Origin: some ad blockers, such as uBlock Origin, allow you to add specific lists to block the appearance of cookie banners. At Ninja Cookie, we believe it is important for Internet users to be able to state, clearly and explicitly, that they oppose the collection, use and resale of their personal data.

Some other extensions do refuse the use of cookies, but often these are not well maintained or updated. The most well-known of these, Consent-O-Matic, was launched by Danish researchers for writing a paper. Since this paper was completed, the project is no longer being actively developed and supported. As for us, we do not plan to abandon Ninja Cookie.

Are there any websites that might stop working through using Ninja Cookie?

Cookies that are essential to the proper functioning of a website cannot be disabled in cookie banners. Therefore, Ninja Cookie cannot block these, so the way the website functions will not be changed.

In very rare cases, it is possible that Ninja Cookie gets a little lost when setting a cookie banner, blocking the website you are visiting. In this case, all you need to do is to deactivate Ninja Cookie temporarily. We would also be very grateful if you could report this bug, using the dedicated button available in our extension. We will then be made aware of the problem, so we can resolve it.

How does Ninja Cookies work?

There are a lot of different cookie banners out there, and the ninja needs to understand the type of cookie banners to be set. To do this, it uses lists, which we have specifically created for this purpose, and where we have detailed detection rules and instructions for setting the different types of cookie banners.

During your browsing experience, the Ninja Cookie analyzes the web page codes and can detect if a cookie banner is present. When a banner is detected, the ninja will simply apply the settings we have defined in the rules.

Here is a detailed description of the Ninja Cookie’s actions, with their associated pictograms:

  • When a ninja analyzes a web page and sets a banner, a blue dot is added.
  • When the ninja has finished blocking all the cookies it can block, and the banner is configured, a green dot is added.
  • When the ninja cannot configure a banner because this configuration was not allowed, it will remove the banner without accepting the use of cookies, adding a yellow dot.
  • When the ninja encounters an error, and is therefore unable to finish its job, it will add a red dot.

Is Ninja Cookie available on mobile browsers?

Basically, the main mobile browsers do not allow the installation of extensions. Therefore, Ninja Cookie are not available on the Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari and Brave mobile browsers. If you want to use Ninja Cookie on mobile phones you can use the Kiwi Browser, which allows installation of extensions on mobiles, directly from the Chrome Web Store. You will find the installation link here.

To be more specific, Firefox browser for Mobile does allow the installation of extensions. However, the teams at Mozilla have chosen to publish the latest version of Firefox Mobile (v81, known as Daylight) without fully finalizing support for the extension. Very few extensions are available on this version at the current time, while it is the Mozilla teams who choose which extensions are allowed. Ninja Cookie is not yet one of these. Unfortunately, we depend on the choices that the Mozilla teams make, and we hope that many more extensions (including Ninja Cookie) will soon be available on the mobile Firefox “Daylight” release, v81.

If you wish to install Ninja Cookie on a mobile browser, it is still possible to download and install the older version of mobile Firefox (v68). You can install Ninja Cookie in this way by clicking on the folloiwng link (here). Please note that as this is not an up-to-date version it may contain security vulnerabilities.

Is Ninja Cookie available on Safari?

A beta version of Ninja Cookie is available on Safari. Some features are not yet available on Safari due to compatibility issues. We are working to fix them.

Is Ninja Cookie free and/or open-source software?

Today, Ninja Cookie is not a free software and is not open-source. However, become a free and open-source software is a goal and we are working to achieve it. We hope that this will happen very soon.

Who is the team behind Ninja Cookie?

We are Théo and Guillaume, two friends in our thirties, living in Paris. We believe that protecting digital privacy is important and that, if you wish to block the use of tracking cookies, your voice needs to be heard. We also understand that the increasing use of of cookie banners is not acceptable to the Internet user, who ends up accepting the use of cookies simply for convenience. While looking for a solution to this, we found that the existing ones available can make banners disappear, but never actually block them.

This is why we decided to launch our own personal project, naming it Ninja Cookie. It is through this that we hope Internet users will be able to easily apply their preferred settings, in order to protect their privacy and enjoy browsing without a cookie banners.
